Planned Giving Options

Many individuals have found planned gifts to be an excellent vehicle for benefiting Penn Athletics while integrating your charitable intentions with your overall tax, estate and financial plans.  Penn’s Office of Gift Planning can help you tailor a bequest and structure gifts of stock, real estate, life insurance, or retirement plans to maximize tax savings while supporting the many athletics program at Penn.

Bequest or Estate Intention: Gifts by will are an easy and powerful way to support the future of Penn Athletics. You can elect to leave a specific dollar amount, a set percentage of the total value of your estate, or the remainder of your estate. A charitable bequest can also be designated for a specific sport or you can simply designate Penn Athletics, which will provide maximum flexibility to use your gift where it can have the most impact.

Language to help with your planning:

I give to The Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania, a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, organized and existing under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the sum of $_______ [or ______% of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate] to be used for [area of Penn Athletics you would like to support].

Beneficiary Designations: Designate Penn Athletics as a remainder beneficiary of your IRA or other qualified retirement plan or your life insurance policy. Naming Penn Athletics as the beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy may reduce the size of a taxable estate and avoid further taxation on those funds.

Other Types of Long-Term Gifts

A planned gift can be designed to generate life-long payment to you or others, obtain significant income tax deductions, and reduce or eliminate estate taxes. These gifts can be funded with cash, stock, retirement assets, life insurance, and real estate, and include:

  • Charitable Gift Annuities
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts
  • Charitable Lead Trusts

Life income gifts and estate intentions qualify you for membership in the Penn Athletics Legacy Circle and the University’s Harrison Society.
