PHILADELPHIA – The inaugural Red & Blue Challenge - a fundraising competition between alumni, family and fans of each of Penn Athletics’ 33 varsity teams - launched on November 29, 2016 and concluded on January 31, 2017.  During this challenge, more than 620 Penn Athletics alumni, family and fans participated in the Red & Blue Challenge to raise funds to directly impact the Penn student-athlete experience.

This two-month fundraising challenge recognized the first place teams in two categories: the highest percentage of new and increased Penn Champions Club members and the highest percentage of dollars raised towards each team’s varsity annual fundraising goal. Ultimately, the support from the Penn Soccer community proved to be victorious in the new and increased donor challenge category, followed closely by the Swimming & Diving and Track & Cross Country teams.

In the second challenge category, Sprint Football continued its undefeated season achieving the highest percentage of dollars raised towards their annual fundraising goal.  Lightweight Rowing raised the second highest percentage towards their goal, followed by Football. Complete team rankings can be found below.

“The passion with which Penn Athletics alumni, family and fans rallied around the Red & Blue Challenge demonstrates the competitive spirit of our community. The friendly competition between the sport communities week after week was exciting to follow,” said Director of Athletics and Recreation Dr. M. Grace Calhoun. “On behalf of our coaches and student-athletes, I’d like to thank everyone who helped make this year’s Red & Blue Challenge a success.”

The Penn Champions Club is committed to providing a world-class experience for Penn student-athletes in the classroom, in the community and in competition.  The sport specific financial contributions from Penn Athletics alumni, family and fans help advance the mission and provide a foundation for our student-athletes that will serve them not only during their four years on campus, but for the next forty years as well.  The Penn Champions Club is thankful for each and every one of the over 620 Red & Blue Challenge supporters and the impact they have on the daily experience of Penn student-athletes.
