PHILADELPHIA - The 2017 Women’s Giving Challenge launched on March 1st and concluded on March 31st.  During this challenge, alumnae from each women’s team competed for $10,000 in prizes, generously sponsored by Allison Mellon C’83 and an anonymous donor.  In addition to alumnae prizes, up to $100,000 was available to match all new and increased dollars raised by alumni, family members and friends to a Penn Athletic varsity program with a women’s team.

In a span of just 31 days, over 300 Penn Athletics alumni, family members and friends generously gave over $300,000 in support of varsity programs with a women’s team, including over $100,000 in new and increased gifts.

Women’s Golf achieved the highest alumnae participation, reaching 29.8% and claiming a $4,000 prize towards supporting current student-athletes.  Gymnastics finished in second place in this category reaching 17.7% and claiming a $2,000 award.  Swimming achieved the most improved alumnae participation with 7.3% – more than doubling last year’s results.

The Penn Champions Club would like to thank every member of the Penn Athletics community who participated in the 2017 Women’s Giving Challenge and gratefully recognize Allison Mellon C’83 and an anonymous donor for sponsoring the prizes.  The financial contributions from the supporters of Penn Athletics help provide a foundation for Penn student-athletes that will serve them not only on their four years on campus, but for the next forty years as well.  If you would like to support Penn Athletics, please click here.
