PHILADELPHIA - On Tuesday, November 28, 2017 the Penn Champions Club will take part in Giving Tuesday – a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.  It also coincides with the launch of this year’s Red and Blue Challenge, a competitive fundraising effort focusing on driving donor support for each of Penn’s 33 varsity athletic programs.

On Giving Tuesday, Penn Athletic alumni, family and friends will compete over a 24-hour period to earn up to two cash bonuses for their team.  The first category will award a $5,000 bonus to the team with the highest percentage towards their annual donor goal.  The second category will award a $5,000 bonus to the team with the highest percentage towards their annual fundraising goal.  Each program’s respective goal will be shared on Giving Tuesday.  In total $10,000 will be awarded in bonus donations on Giving Tuesday alone.  Additional bonus dollars will also be available in later parts of the Red and Blue Challenge.

“Giving Tuesday provides a unique opportunity to draw attention to the importance of the Penn student-athlete experience for a full 24-hours and we are excited to provide a platform whereby the entire  athletics community can unite to support our student-athletes while participating in healthy and fun competition,” noted Tim Folan, Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Development and Alumni Relations.

Annual support to each program helps provide resources for over 900 student-athletes as they pursue a world-class education and compete at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics.  Examples of how annual support has been used in the past include the implementation of new training technology, additional professional development programming, upgraded equipment, and enhanced team travel opportunities.
