Record-Breaking Fundraising Year Impacts the Penn Student-Athlete Experience

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics is proud to announce that the Penn Champions Club raised a record $23.3 million during the 2017 fiscal year through the generosity of over 6,200 alumni, family members and fans of Penn Athletics. This marks the third consecutive year of surpassing the overall fundraising goal since the Penn Champions Club launched in 2014.

“Every dollar raised through annual, endowment or capital support aids in holistically developing our student-athletes and further builds the foundation that prepares them for life after Penn,” Director of Athletics and Recreation Dr. M. Grace Calhoun said. “We are extremely fortunate to have one of the most loyal and dedicated donor bases in all of college athletics and we are so thankful for their generosity.”

The 2017 fiscal year was also the highest annual giving year in Penn Athletics history, raising $5.6 million to provide world-class experiences for student-athletes. In addition, eleven athletic programs broke team fundraising records including Basketball, Field Hockey, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Sprint Football, Swimming and Wrestling. This was also a banner year for endowment gifts, as over $8.3 million was raised to support Penn Athletics in perpetuity –the highest amount of endowment gifts made during a single year in Penn Athletics history.

“The continued fundraising growth is an example of what we already know – the Penn Athletics community is passionate and eager to have an impact on the current and future generations of Penn student-athletes,” remarked Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development and Alumni Relations, Tim Folan. “I would like to thank all the alumni, parents and friends who invested in Penn Athletics this year.”
